Western Railroad Discussion > Roseville CA Explosion of the PastDate: 03/09/04 20:31 Roseville CA Explosion of the Past Author: rrman6 Watched the History Channel's Modern Marvels this eve concerning transport of HAZMAT materials and saw the pics of Roseville in the 1960's when the yard, cars and buildings were blown to bits by exploding bombs. Is there any survivors of this disaster on this board that was in the vicinity at the time? Any images would be interesting to see. If so, an advance thanks to whoever submits such!

Larry Date: 03/09/04 21:33 Re: Roseville CA Explosion of the Past Author: Scott It was loud, long and the Sheriff's command center was at Rusch Park.
4 years ago they were still finding unexploded bombs. Date: 03/09/04 23:23 Re: Roseville CA Explosion of the Past Author: dggill When UP was tearing up the old Roseville Yard to reconstruct it into the new Davis Yard, the project was halted several times as earthmoving equipment uncovered unexploded ordinance.
The area around Antelope was almost entirely rural. Today, the Antelope end of Davis Yard is completely surrounded by housing subdivisions and a similar disaster today would have far different consequences that the one four decades ago. I believe this was 1973, not "1960's". Some were duds, but quite a few "went off" sending sharpnel into the residential neighborhood as was reported at the time.
