Back near the station as the train slowly approaches far in the distance. The on duty trainmaster kindly counsels a Boulder City Police Officer of the dangers of standing on a active rail line, as the officer watches over a crew of inmate workers picking up trash.

Even in a quiet town like this with the lights flashing and the guard rail about to come down and UP 844 blowing it horn in warning this driver makes a mad dash across the tracks.

I was wondering about the rails I saw as the family and I were driving from Kingman to Vegas last Thursday. We were coming up 93 from Boulder City, and I noticed the rails off to my right. I then saw the casino at Railroad Pass, but I noticed that where the tracks cross 93, they are covered by asphalt. That made me think that the line was not in service. I see that that was an incorrect assumption. Thanks for the photos.

How far south does the stubbed branch extend from Henderson? Last year when I was down there it looked like some of the warehouses on the south side of Henderson still had rail service. Is there any plans to restore rail service to Boulder? I think I recall some years ago that federal dam sites were required to have rail service as part of the National Rail Defense Network.

Butch,,,,,,here we go

Actually the rails seem to stop at State Highway 95...but in actually they just paved over the tracks. With the heat of summer and the weigh of the GP 30 they could actually run down through Henderson. But of course that won't happen.
NDOT is suppose to be accepting bids to reopen this part of the track some time in the coming year. Henderson has deed most of the track south of the Henderson Spur to Nevada Southern. What they will do with it is still open to suggestion. THe Regional Transportation System is looking for light rail but that's far down the road.
Other than the pave over portion the track goes all the way from boulder City Station to the UP Main. The UP local normally works early morning, some evenings and some late shift all the way to the Timet plant which is under UP control, once the lines branches further south toward Boulder it actually Nevada Southern rail. Hope this answers your question.
