WP 707 special photos...
Author: danf

As I upload these right now, the train has not even hit Hearst siding yet...

I was told that they did a slow move at Stege as Richmond Pacific set out their borrowed WP 713 for photo-op as WP 707 passed by. Anyone get shots of that? I wanted to try but didn't want to chance rush hour traffic (which really sucked today).

First shot was at Berkeley approaching University Ave underpass.

Not too pleased with my digital camera today. I left the flash on by accident which caused a delay between exposures. It was too late when I discovered it as I would have had to go into the menu to shut it off. Next time I do action shots, I'm taking the 35mm out of retirement.

Going away shot at Berkeley...

Going away shot with WP 484 and crew...

After it took nearly a half hour to get to JLS from Berkeley I thought for sure there was no way I would catch it. As luck had it I got there with seconds to spare. Not enough time to re-adjust the exposure on my camera. Over-cooked all shots at this location...

Rod McClure, Prez of Portola Railroad Museum at the throttle. Thanks to Rod for the heads-up...

Last one...

Approaching Marina Blvd in San Leandro. By now I was completely over the traffic on 880 and decided to go home after this.

I did catch some video that I will upload later. Looking forward to seeing more photos from locations I couldn't get to.

Let's see, three high-hood Geeps, two of which are Western Pacific and a caboose all on a main line in 2005!

I'm envious!!

What's the reason for this move in the first place?

Shuffling equipment between Portola and Rio Vista. They traded a bunch of stuff last year.

Here is the train down in Fremont in the old WP yard.

Switching the yard in Fremont. Too bad a crummy old SP unit had to ruin things :-)

And one more shot of the crew taking a break on the mainline just north of CP Jack-In-The-Box on the UP Coast Sub in Fremont. The UP MRVSJ was stopped ahead of them waiting to get into the Newark Yard.

707 meets the 713 - Stege California, 2005

Here's my first pic of the momentous movement today at the east end of Stege, CA (near Cutting Blvd, Richmond, CA). Thanks to all those for the headsup, and the kind folks at the Richmond Pacific for arranging the impromptu and highly unlikely meet.. in the year 2005 no less!

Cheers,
Harry

Great job, Harry!
Yeah, last year it was the WP recreated F-unit over Donner, and this year, we get this--
It's like an old Milwaukee ad out here...it doesn't get any better than this!!
Oh, we passed them at Brickyard on #534, and I set some air so RV009 and I could get the shot.
In the process, a photographer who was set up there might've had us in his shot.
Anyway, with any luck, we cleared in time so he didn't get a Capitol "block" shot and scored as well!
P.S. Always, always, bring your camera to work. Anyone who's seen Bob Larson's WP books knows that we all owe him a great thanks for living by this mantra. WP lives!
