A little something special on the MRVSJ today
Author: alex14ramos

While waiting for the MSJRV today with the unpatched SP unit leading, I was watching the MRVSJ approach at Jack London Square. While I saw it approaching, with no camera at hand, I noticed a switcher unit trailing, so I ran to the car and got the camera and got a quick grab shot of RPCX 2005, an S12 (?). Anyone know why this loco was on the MRVSJ?

Later,
Alex

Wasn't on in Davis. This train had SD40-SD50-SD40-SD40, right? Good catch.

(Hmmm. Maybe the 4th unit was that GP38, not an SD40. At any rate it was a classic EMD lashup...)

Ted in Davis

It is moving from Concord Naval Weapons Station to a private owner in Redwood City, CA. This unit started life as SLSF 206 a Baldwin VO-1000, and was later reengined with an EMD 567c. Here's a photo of it in an earlier life as Frisco (SLSF) 206. Photo by J. Hunt/Rail Journeys West Collection.

WOW, thank you for this information, too bad it still wasn't in that Frisco scheme, that is cool.

Makes sense since the Concord Naval Weapons storage facility was on last month's Military Base Hit List from Washington.

And you knew the UNPATCHED ESPEE unit was ON POINT of this train and you didn't set up your artillery ? ? ?

Someone in UP screwed up: if it was going to Redwood City it should have been in Omaha by now, heading to Maine.

naw, the UP3400 was on point of THIS train, the southbound MRVSJ-07 (Roseville to San Jose) but the SP8594 was on point of the northbound MSJRV-07 (San Jose to Roseville). Got a couple pics of the SP8594 on that northbound MSJRV before it ducked under the fast moving clouds from last night. Dumb storm blew in real quick and covered up the beautiful early evening sun screwing up a few of our planned railfan shots for the unpatched SP leader...

A similar re-engined Baldwin plus several of the silver boxcars were acquired from Concord and moved to GGRM further up the Peninsula last year.
