The Austin Loops on MRL's Mullan Pass aren't exactly easy to photograph, at least so much in straightforward manner. Impressive to look at sure, but it requires some thinking and hiking to try and capture some essence of the loops.

But once you figured out how to take advantage of the wide open hillside, the sky is the limit.

VERY nice, Ted!
Are these eastbounds or westbounds...maybe head and rear of same train?

Great photos, great area for photos, not overwhelmed with trains though which is OK. Is Austin still a quiet area, no houses except for the farmhouse under the trestle (now there's a quiet spot).

Is the phrase 'essence of the loops' where the phrase S-curves originates?

Very nice, I often hike in when railfanning to try to get that unique angle for a pic. It adds a personal touch compared to the generic 3/4 roster shot!
