UP 1988
Author: oddballsdecals

I got this T Shirt at UP days today, here is what UP 1988 will look like, the scan is not the greatest since it is on a T shirt, but you will get the idea of what it looks like when UP releases it.

All the UP employee's were wearing the shirts today. Hats off to UP for a great day!!

It was worth driving 3 hours one way to see them.

Tom....very nice shots of the two at Omaha today on your previous post. Regarding that T-shirt, Is that what U.P is saying for sure it will look like? While alot of people may like the solid red, I was sure hoping for green with some form of the yellow strips. From the looks of that shirt, the MKT unit will NOT be near as eye catching as the Mop, and WP unit.

Time will tell, we'll have to wait and see.

Did the shirts for 1982 and 1983 match their paint jobs exactly?

More teasing!
Thanks for the heads up Tom.

I was hoping too for some green and yellow as that is how I recall most photo's of M-K-T (Katy) or "the Katy" as pictured.

If the 1988 looks like the t-shirt...then it will be everything I could have hoped for. Red, with silver trucks...wow.

I do not mean to incur the ire of MKT fans who like the John Deere green (hey...I'm a MP/TP fan who liked Jenks blue, which is heresy in true and blue MP cirles), but this red-based scheme, with silver trucks...is going to look like it belongs right on the head end of a passenger train.

No, the MoP unit looks like it belongs on a model railroad whose owner decided to let his 13 year old daughter design a paint sceme in a last ditch effort to try to get her interested in his hobby. Baby blue?? There was never any Baby Blue on a MoP unit. There's no contrast between the nose eagle and the Baby Blue, and the Screamin Eagle on the side gets lost in all the clutter of the Baby blue and the proper Jenks blue trying to stylize another eagle in the background. Send it to North Little Rock, paint over the Baby Blue with Jenks blue, leave the nose eagle, Screamin Eagle and Silver underframe alone, and you'll have a REAL eye-catcher. It's an eyesore as it stands now. Grade: F minus.

For the record, I think the WP unit looks pretty good. I like the bold WP on the nose and the bold orange nose stripes, as well as the big WP herald on the hood. Grade: B+
