1 - Another Maine Central pacific #469 approaching the Oakland, Maine station. Signal number is B793, if that means anything to anyone.
2 - Maine Central Pacific #470 at the Oakland station with my Mother talking to engineer Waldron according to the notes on the negative sleeve. The station is on the other side of the baggage cars.
3 - Probably should put this on the Model Railroad discussion section, but thought you might get a kick out of it too. That's me watching a Lionel train in my parents house in Waterbury Connecticut around 1948. Still just a very young kid, but do love the prototype and model trains. Just great Charles...didn't the 470 get saved? Also, I think that there is an article on the "last run" of her in an old TRAINS. Thanks for sharing the vintage steam, always appreciated.

C.C., you was obviously raised on the right track. I wish kids that are now the age you were in that great photo could also be raised in such an environment. 470 was saved, tho I have lost track of her current status. Keep the pix comin', please. Oh, by the way, judging by the manner in which your Mom's holding her purse, I'm almost positive she's asking the hogger if the booster's been upgraded to the Type C-2 ?? :)

Thank you for posting the very nice images.

Though the 470 WAS saved, she has not faired very well. The locomotive was donated to the City of Waterville, Maine in 1954 and unfortunately has sat unprotected from weather and vandalism for over 50 years. She has been periodically spruced up by volunteers from the "470 Club" but not much has been done in recent years. A seemingly serious effort toward raising public awareness (and funds) began last summer by some locals. I have not heard what, if anything they might have accomplished.

Thanks SJH for posting the photos of the 470. I did remember that it was saved and on display in front of the Waterville, Maine station. Wondered about her current condition or even if it was still there. My parents, my sister and I went to my relatives summer camp on East Pond (actually was a lake several miles long) near Oakland Maine area every year since the late 40s. These steam shots were taken during our trips up there. Last time we were there was with my wife and two kids in 1969. Also visited Steamtown in Bellows Falls, Vermont at that time too. Since moved to Pennsylvania........................... C.C.Chas.
