McCRRR 18 UPDATE
Author: sierrashay

Passed thru Jackson today about 3PM. Route was Hwy 88, than south on 49, then west on 12.
Stopped in Jackson for about 10 min. Photos taken in Jackson, then climbing out of the Mokelumne River, and then east of Valley Springs.

What are the two pieces of what looks like PVC pipe running over the locomotive? They sure aren't going to protect if from a low bridge.

They use those in case of low power lines. Whenever an exceeded height move takes place the truckers will usually have either pvc or thin plywood draped over the top to make sure it doesnt get snagged.

I do a lot of work for Cozad Trailers in Stockton- they are the ones that manufactured those heavy haul trailers.

Passed through Oakdale on the way home from work. McCRRR #18 was parked in the AL Gilbert parking lot to be unloaded in the morning. Saw a bunch of the Railtown 1897 SHP regulars along with a couple of old friends. We got a chance to climb aboard the #18 and peek inside the cab and give the running gear a look over. Checked out a couple of old locomotive inspection forms in the cab, interesting stuff. That engine has seen a lot of hard miles. Rumor mill says it could possibly be under steam by Memorial Day weekend and run through Labor Day weekend out of Oakdale this summer.

They will have a bit of work to do...
