Author: juicejunkie On April 20, 1985 Southern 4501 leads the Dogwood Arts Festival Special out of Chattanooga, bound for Knoxville, Tn. TVRM and Norfolk Southern sponsored this trip on a beautiful spring Saturday 25 years ago. Would you ever believe that we may see this trip repeated, complete with 4501? WOW!!!!!!!!!

When we left off some said that was authentic at least at some point in SR passenger livery history and that Messrs. Merriman, Claytor, Bistline, and of course Purdie, could not all be wrong. Others said no way, SR never painted their cab roofs red.

http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?11,1953775,1966882 Are there any vintage color photos showing red roofs on SR passenger power? Date: 07/12/10 13:17 Re: Southern 4501-The past and the Future! Author: CZ10 Seems like the question should be what was the Southern paint scheme prior to the end of steam. Since at the time of this photo, the 4501 was still owned by the railroad, anything they painted it could have been deemed "authentic", just not "historical".
