Steam & Excursion > UP E9's in Austin

I took a break from work and went down to the Amtrak Depot to grab some shots of the UP E9 units. I was headed north on MOPAC Blvd around 11:30 AM this morning on a parts run to our local computer store and knew the units were coming into town.

Too bad it's not UP844, but mechanical things do happen.

Are they still departing for San Marcos/New Braunfwls/San Antonio at 0800 Thursday ?

Great looking locomotives. It's too bad that they eliminated the nose door. The door and hand grabs added visual texture.
But that is a minor nit-pic. It's great to see them out and pulling the UP passenger equipment.

I guess if you don't like them you can go shoot the BNSF E-Units.

Oh wait.

Yes, according to the Union Pacific police officers I spoke with today the train will depart Austin at 8am on Thursday. They said the museum car with most likely be open to the public tomorrow from 10-5.

to the Pacific Northwest! The E units will be
in Spokane on July 10:
