The Daylight is in Dunsmuir Now!!
Author: OKTrainboys

Traveled thru Dunsmuir for the first time ever twice in 3 days this week. Once up and then down the Shasta Route. What a pleasant surprise!! Some folks STILL get it!

One more...This SP Caboose.

And like you, by this time, after seeing all these Daylights in one place, next to the SP mainline Shasta Route, I REALLY had the weebeejeebee's.....I almost thought a GS class was going to magically appear.....

Then.....no fooling, coming around the bend thru the trees....was......a flash of color.....

Does anybody happen to know what the number of that caboose used to be?

TIA

It certainly looks a little more at home in that neck of the woods than on the Cotton Belt (but I sure like seeing it here, too).

No, but the caboose is an NP car, possibly SP&S.

We figured it to be an NP caboose, I thought I saw it on a list someplace. There was a similar design that was built for the SP&S. It may have come from McCloud at some distant point. The story goes that most of the SP types were out of town and a citizen thought it was a good idea to have a caboose in town.

Both water tank and caboose art were designed and painted by John Signor. Not sure if the mural survives inside the bank building across from the Cornerstone, another fine piece of John Signor's handy work.

Don't forget there are three lower quadrant semaphores preserved in Dunsmuir, in three different locations.

It looked like an SP caboose so I thought that's what it was.

Johns mural is still in the bank but the bank is no longer there.

You didn't make enough money to keep the bank in business, Bob?
