Strasburg Doubleheaded Mixed Freight (in HD)
Author: bigjim4life

Yesterday morning, TO member Mitch Goldman and myself got up extremely early and headed out to Strasburg, PA - as word had been spread that the morning's mixed freight would not be pulled by one steam engine, but TWO. That's right, a double-headed, steam-powered revenue freight. Even with very little light available for photos and videos, both Canadian National 2-6-0 #89 and Norfolk & Western 4-8-0 #475 did not disappoint with the six-car consist. Enjoy the sight and sounds of extremely rare double-headed steam on Strasburg!

Not bad for the lighting conditions, but the SOUND of the two engines, however, more than makes up for any visual issues. Glad you got this!

And thank you to Strasburg for the steam freights this year.

Great video Loved the way you can see the fire from #89 back on the fireman

Now that is very cool. A couple of questions:

1. Was all that power really necessary for such a short train?
2. What was the reason for doing this?

I visited Strasburg this spring for the first time in 30 years and was very impressed with everything except the shortness of the trip. Other than that --- outstanding.

Yes, the tonnage was more than 475 could handle alone.
