Indeed she is, Mitch. I was one of the lucky to have been there, and she did not disappoint! Of note, in the 2nd picture, Reading & Northern CEO Andy Muller Jr is to the left of the engine. He seemed to enjoy seeing this engine run again.

Did any issues pop up? Running gear? Boiler? I'm very glad to see another steamer out on the rails and running. Hopefully this little trip out today will show them any issues so they can work on them and then hopefully they will find a place to run!

Would it be hard to add a pony truck, and would it be of any benefit? I only ask because afik, 0-X-0 configurations are harder on track?

Re: a proposed "pony truck" to an 0-6-0:

The small drivers, the low speeds and short wheel base are characteristics of steam switchers.
The addition of a pony truck requires the engineering of an equalizing lever, pivoted under the cylinder saddle along with the addition on a front
cross- equalizer between the forward ends of the front leaf springs.

The benefits of a pony truck would be questionable due to the small diameter of the drivers, the shortness of the 3-axle frame, and the close location of the 'center-of-rotation' to the 'new' front axle. Adding a pony truck would not enhance this old girl very much.

The costs of finding a home for her to operate on could become staggering -- keep it simple. Another factor is that the 'physics' (vector forces) of handling draughts of cars tends to keep the driving chassis aligned (centered between) the rails. Absent cars, the alternating piston thrusts cause the chassis to waddle down the rails --- the benefits of a pony truck do not ameliorate this tendency (the required equalizing lever's length would probably
be too short to provide much 'guiding' benefit) --pulling cars tends to 'hold her down'. Find a way to put her to work!

Its better to stay away from such a modification on this sized loco -- she was built to be a strong yard goat -- better for her to live out her years
doing what she was designed to do! She's a strong engine and would be at home shunting cars --all day long! Five years of "boiler-time" and they'll have to re-tube her, all over again, along with the jacket and lagging (now apparently non-existent?). To what purpose?

As HotWater questioned earlier about this loco: Why start the FRA 1472 day clock running, with no clear operational use for the old girl?

Overfire Jets.

Wes, it sounds like from your description she would be perfectly good at hauling a tourist or dinner train around with 4-6 cars or so. If they have any place they could run something like that and not lose more money than they can cover doing it they might have a workable proposition.
