RIP Hugh Crane ... CO&E Founder
Author: burlingtonjohn

Saw on the Trains Magazine newswire that Hugh Crane, the founder of the Crab Orchard & Egyptian Railroad passed away a week ago. The CO&E was noted for running steam power in freight service until 1986. As young lads barely 18 years old, Q-GP30 and myself made the pilgrimage to Marion Illinois and spent a couple of days railfanning the CO&E. Got to visit with Mr. Crane and for the first time in our lives, shoot steam in freight service.

A humble tip of this old Squid's cover to Mr Crane ...

Respectfully,
Burlington John

My condolences, to a neat operation and a good man. I've stated before about that engine going underneath me as I drove south on I-24. A sight I won't ever forget with TOFC behind steam!
