A scene that I never saw in Boulder ... this undated Howard Fogg shot shows C&S #900 and a water tank. The location is from a common vantage point near the C&S depot, with the Flatirons as an impressive backdrop.

Curious...how, where did you get Howard Fogg slides? Are they originals? Great photo!

Interesting to see the contrast of Steam, the electrical transmission tower and the clean are of Colorado. The concept of efficient electrical transmission lines didn't really come about until the 60's, obviously there was always a reason or need to access electricity locally though...just like steam engines and water tanks.

Great stuff, thanks for sharing! I see 900 carries the Illinois Central steamboat whistle in this image...owned "...by an admiring collector in Denver." (Howard's great LP, "The Big Steam").

Would the "C&S" depot have been the "union" depot formerly at Canyon and 14th? Or are you referring to the later depot where the old Sutherland's lumber yard ended up, or some other depot?

Regardless, it's a great photo. I've always thought of Howard Fogg in connection with his paintings. I wasn't aware that he was such a good photographer as well as artist!
