Steam & Excursion > Western Pacific 0-6-0 165 progressDate: 04/16/14 19:20 Western Pacific 0-6-0 165 progress Author: zephyrus Here are some photos of the restoration progress on WP 0-6-0 165. Last year, the boiler and frame were placed back on the drivers. Rebuilt springs and other underframe components mean she rides and sits much better than before. Boiler work continues with flue and superheater work coming up soon. This year, she will hopefully get her cab back and her tender is being rebuilt.
You can follow the project at: http://http://wprrsteam.blogspot.com/ Also, the FRRS is currently running a Spring Fundraising Drive and the 165 is one of the benefactors: http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?1,3382288 Help return WP steam to the rails! The purpose of the braces is to keep the top portion of the front tube sheet, which is flat, from bulging due to internal pressure. The lower portion of the tube sheet is reinforced by the firetubes which will be installed between the front tube sheet and the firebox, behind the workman. One tube will be installed into each of those holes. The larger tubes will hold superheater elements. -John Date: 04/16/14 20:53 Re: Western Pacific 0-6-0 165 progress Author: rrman6 Thanks guys! That makes sense. I've always understood the front tube sheet and firebox with the fire/superheater tubes, but never gave thought to the forces above. Is this typical of all large locos like UP 844, SLSF 1522, RI 5100's, etc.?
