1522 brain bug bites
Author: mike15224449

With all of the thoughts about returns of 4449, 611, 4501 going around and the 2926 in the not to distant future, the 1522 bug hits me every once in awhile. This happens to me every year. If not 1522 will we ever see a Frisco Passenger Steam loco grace the rails.

By the way, who was the engineer of the return segment from Newburg to St. Louis on June 23, 2001? We went really fast. I went to bed that night and the steamboat whistle just continued to blow through my head even though I didn't have a whistle cord.

There's this guy, and if he wasn't running it he'll know who was...he'll be along in a bit...

As for Frisco engines - there are two under restoration, one of which
should be running very soon:

The American Steam Railroad Preservation Association's 2-8-2 #1352

and

Illinois Railway Museum's 2-10-0 #1630 - likely will see public runs
this year.

They are not passenger engines though. A frisco 4-8-4 would be awesome. Aren't there 3?

Four actually, though 4516 in Sedalia, MO is in pretty deplorable condition. Others are 4500 in Tulsa, 4501 in Dallas (Frisco, TX), and 4524 in Springfield, all looking pretty good.

I'm building a 1.6" scale SLSF4500 in the passenger Meteor livery!! This "other guy" and I are having a heated discussion about the color of her drivers and whether or not white walls! The tender fabrication is done.....throwing stuff at the locomotive as fast as I can, and am past the point of no return, but it will be likely until this time next year until she rolls out....

Were Frisco tenders all welded? I don't see any rivets on the 4500 tender in the picture.

To say that the Frisco engine on display on the grounds of the Missouri State Fair is in deplorable shape would be an understatement. I have been attending the fair for last 30 years and I am not sure that the girl has seen any kind of preservation or stabilization efforts.

Key,(can I call you Key?) I googled Frisco 4516 "images" and got some. I've seen much worse. The jacket is off and it's been painted, you know the usual white running gear and pilot parts but it looks like somebody did something. Photos were dated 2012.

Yes it is....a well known shop by a master builder.....Frisco1522 gave me copies of the 1.5" scale Baldwin drawings, so it will be a stunning locomotive and is up scaling to 1.6". Taking time so the funds are there to get it right.

On the return trip, I was engineer from Cuba to Newburg and back to Stanton, MO. Jeff Schmid took over from there to downtown St. L and I took her home to the MOT for the last time. Jeff went out with a bang and I think the RR crew may have been a bit peeved at him over it, but it all had an ending.

Well I was like guess what Dad, 1522 is doing St. Louis to Newburg at the 2001 NRHS convention. We have got to get tickets for that one So we did.

That naughty Jeff Schmid. He likes to go fast.

Watching/hearing the 1522 leave Pacific that last Sunday night after a quick stop made the hair on the back of my neck stand up - chuff, chuff, chuff - vooom! Gone!
Now that I live in Pacifc, it makes me smile every time I drive over the 1st St. crossing any evening thinking about that scene and the sound!

A few minutes later, the show coming up Kirkwood hill and across Geyer/Big Bend was also epic - the crowd on hand applauded the show after the train rolled through.

And to think just short hours later it would all be over. Still a shame almost 14 years later, but it was fun while it lasted!
