UP 4014, 4884 West departing Cheyenne
Author: highgreengraphics

This morning, the westbound of special equipment to go to West Colton to return with Big Boy 4014 departed Cheyenne, here is 4014 and 4884 making good time up Track 4 Approaching Speer Junction. Ahead, it will cross over to Track 3 and diverge onto the Borie Cutoff to rejoin Mains 1 and 2 at Borie. Looks like it is really happening! === === = === JLH

Where's the steam protection loco?

If the steam needs a diesel protect, then shouldn't the diesel have a steamer behind to ruin all the diesel foamer's pictures?

(I kid, of course, for those that don't get sarcasm.)

A deep sense of humor about locomotive numbers....well done.
Have to wonder if the UP ever considered putting the Big Boys in the 4800 series, starting high enough to get the 4884?

Nice shot in great light. I hope you also shot each of the cars as the train passed. I'm sure a lot of folks are curious about the consist. Then again, between now and when the equipment returns to Cheyenne, Trainorders will be deluged with pictures of everything....at every conceivable location and points in between!

Really great photo! Those SD70Ms haven't looked this spiffy since they were new. Your "before" photo needs to be in any photo essay about this project.

Well, not really, since the 4-8-8-4 #4014 will still be dead.

Wait, UP has a diesel numbered 4014?

Which locomotive will have to be renumbered THIS time?

The westbound of special equipment going to West Colton (to return with Big Boy 4014) passed through Uintah, Utah, just before dusk on April 21.
Watch 4014 and 4884 slowing down for arrival in Ogden a few miles ahead, about 7:30 PM.

Thanks, everybody - I thought nobody cared, I was the only one there at Speer at what was the only correct sun angle, I thought it was a minor miracle that they ran it south on Track 4 to go west. Great video in Utah, so the people who wanted the car consist can see their names and numbers. === === = === JLH

Neither: the Big Boy now bears the official designation UPP 4014 (Union Pacific Passenger) while the diesel remains UP 4014.

For those in the know. . . .just what do each of the individual cars contain?

Somehow I think the two boxcars that have "rotary snowplow" lettered on them probably don't have an actual snowplow -- so - tool shop?

Are some of the passenger cars equipped with bunks and a kitchen?

Thanks!!
