Steam & Excursion > College World Series SpecialDate: 04/22/14 01:55 College World Series Special Author: traingeek087 Over the past few years, Union Pacific has been displaying equipment next to the new TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha for the College World Series. The last two years 844 has run out from Cheyenne to be the center of attention for the display.
You see where I am going with this already? Several months ago it appeared that 844 would only make two trips this year. This trip, and the Denver Post Frontier Days train. Now with the recent announcement of no Denver Post Special, is it safe to say that there will be Es or 6936 (deadheading with no support cars?) displayed in the place of the once glorious 844? Traingeek087 Date: 04/22/14 07:15 Re: College World Series Special Author: Bob3985 Ed's gang have been readying the E's and I would venture to guess that they will be the Main attraction this year along with their use on the Frontier Days and Sherman Hill Model RR Club trains too.

All their steam locomotives are in various states of tear down so that will not happen. Bob Krieger Cheyenne, WY Date: 04/22/14 15:24 Re: College World Series Special Author: HotWater 5-String Wrote:

Look at how long it took them to prepare 4014 for towing. Date: 04/22/14 16:42 Re: College World Series Special Author: badtanker1987 I know.... I know... It won't happen but there is always 5511 that could be towed.

Do realize how much manpower it would take the Steam Crew to prepare THAT thing? Date: 04/23/14 13:24 Re: College World Series Special Author: Hillcrest Good grief, can you imagine if it came to that? The UP Steam Locomotives drug around cold from static display to static display by diesels?....Noooooooooo.
Cheers, Dave Date: 04/23/14 18:09 Re: College World Series Special Author: EmpireBuilder We actually did for a short time in the late '80s / early '90s timeframe. Had a smaller steam locomotive mounted on a flatcar that went to an event or two. I remember it going to Septemberfest / River City Roundup in Omaha behind 844 one year The locomotive is on display in Omaha's Western Heritage Museum and the flat now carries the bulktainers for Heritage Fleet.
