Short story it was a former Santa FE SDP40F (originally Amtrak) that BNSF repainted just before the locomotive's retirement for a photo special for customer Maersk. It is the only surviving SDP40F. Anyone ask the crew whether or not the missing X and 4 were taken down by them or were stolen? It must have happened in Las Vegas. Note that the unit has a walt-way on the front, where originally Amtrak SDP40F units did not. I think you're right John, pics of train arriving in Vegas still had the x, and 4, Photos of the train in a previous post, "4014 Eastbound Day 4, Las Vegas to Moapa" Show them missing.

Date: 05/06/14 00:33 Re: Big Boy and Big Blue meet in Ogden Author: Odyssey I visited the Ogden Station on Saturday, 5/3, prior to the arrival of the 4014. "Big Blue", #644, is owned by a railroad restoration group (didn't get its official name) and the plan is to restore to its AmTrack configuration and colors. The hope is to use it as a for-hire locomotive for tourist/charter runs. The engine was being washed when I was there. The engine is operational.
There is also a second locomotive, the 231 that has been vandalized and will take some substantial funds to restore ... apparently signifant amounts of copper wiring were stolen and the windshield on the fireman's side was shattered by a shotgun blast ... don't know where or when this happened, but not at Ogden Station Photo 1: Big Blue #644 getting a wash and rinse Photo 2: Big Blue #644 front view Photo 3: #231 Odyssey Evergreen, CO Date: 05/06/14 02:24 Re: Big Boy and Big Blue meet in Ogden Author: lwilton And what is that white and green monster back there behind 231?
Date: 05/06/14 14:15 Re: Big Boy and Big Blue meet in Ogden Author: nycman Both 644 and 231 were in Portland, and that is where the vandalism to 231 occurred. That's Chris, 231's owner, washing 644.
