Inyo #22, McKeen, and V&T #25 (Carson City, NV)
Author: cchan006

Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City had a little celebration during the July 4th weekend, by running the wood-burner Baldwin 4-4-0 #22 "Inyo" as well as the McKeen Motor Car (the other #22) and Virginia Truckee's Baldwin 4-6-0 #25.

I was there on Sunday, July 6 to see the Inyo run, since it hasn't run in about 2 years. Even though the museum said the Inyo will run only at the morning parade, the volunteers had some fun with the wood-burner, and ran it throughout the day. That gave me chance to record several clips in the first video I'm posting here.

- Getting ready for the morning parade.
- Inyo and #25 at the Wabuska Depot.
- Video of Inyo running throughout the day.

- Roster shot of the Inyo next to the water tank.
- Roster shot of #25 next to the water tank.
- Volunteers had fun with #25, too, taking it to the wye, run around the train, and run #25 tender forward with the train backwards, then going back to the wye to run everything normal, and so forth.

I got some video clips of the #25 and McKeen Motor Car in the second video I'm posting here. I'm riding onboard the McKeen in the last clip, where you'll see Nevada State Railroad Museum's next restoration project on display, the narrow gauge Baldwin 2-6-0 #1 "Glenbrook". Steam fans interested in the Glenbrook might want to stay tuned to the rumor mill, as the volunteers are optimistic that they can get it running soon.

- People enjoying the ride on the McKeen.
- Museum's second McKeen viewed from within McKeen #22.
- Both #22s together.

That's all folks.

Great photos. On the McKeen, is there no glass in the round windows, and if not, was that the way they were built?

Also, the museum needs a good weed abatement day.

Great coverage, Charles. That is a neat museum, I've seen the McKeen run a time or two as well as the V&T 25 but I've yet to see the Inyo run. Amazing to see history preserved like that….and not only preserved but operated. Thanks again for sharing.

Thank you, thank you, thank you, Charles, for taking the photos & video and posting them on here. This is an operation of which I know very little. I very much enjoyed watching both videos and viewing the photos.

The two steam locomotives are wonderful to watch and hear and the McKeen car is stunningly beautiful.

Thank you, too, to Bob P for the interior view of the McKeen car.

I don't know when I'll return to Northern Nevada, but this museum is definitely a "must visit."

The Museum is very well done. Smaller, but easily on a quality par with Pennsylvania's and California's.

And the "Windsplitter" (the nickname for that type of McKeen car) is a fantastic rebuild. If it were the only piece there, a ride in it would be worth the trouble of gtting there, in my estimation. The workmanship put in to her by the museum volunteers was top quality.

Cchan006, thanks for the pictures but particulary for the fine videos.

Thanks Charles for the interior shot. Very interesting. One of these years I need to make it up there
