Steam & Excursion > ATSF 2926 Work Update Week Ending 07/19/2014

Though most track work was completed and rail relaid and ballasted, the group wanted to replace the concrete crossings within the work area which had been removed to replace the ties. Pictures show the forms being placed prior to new cement being poured.

In the machine shop this week, various items were being fabricated for the cylinder hone and the crosshead tramming device. Assembly of the power head for the cylinder hone was completed. Drive shaft parts are now being machined. As always, there are engine parts to be cleaned and painted.

On Friday 59 kids and parents/grandparents from a local elementary school toured the site. Kids of all ages spent three hours touring the site and asking questions and questions about the engine, the work and future operation.

Photos show the preparation and pouring of the concrete, machine shop work and continued fabrication of superheater tubes. Some kitty's took cover from afternoon monsoon showers. Rumor has it that a REALLY big cat is somewhere around the site.
