Steam & Excursion > Planes and Boats and Trains - 2Date: 07/22/14 11:29 Planes and Boats and Trains - 2 Author: africansteam Today we continue our trip on the White Pass & Yukon to Fraser Meadows.
1. Prior to No. 73’s arrival one of the diesel powered trains pulled into the Skagway depot to board passengers. The crew cut the power off and ran around the train for the outbound journey. 2. Rolling past the Skagway shops. 3 & 4. As the train leaves town the woods quickly close in on the track. Date: 07/22/14 11:36 Re: Planes and Boats and Trains - 2 Author: africansteam 5. Approaching Fraser Meadows the track begins to climb above the timberline. The track elevation at Fraser Summit is 2,888 feet according to the station sign. The WP&Y guide book shows it 2,685.
6. Looking back was we enter the balloon track at Fraser Meadows. The train takes water from a creek here the return trip. In part three we will head back down to Skagway. You answered a question that has been languishing in the back of my mind. How many cars can No. 69 take up the mountain!

They have roughly the same tractive effort but the 73 has a better horsepower curve. |
