A few shots on our return.

1. Up against the cliff.

2. Steel Bridge. At an elevation of 2, 613 feet above sea level this was the tallest cantilever bridge in the world. It has been out of service since 1969.

3. Through the wigglies.

4. The gold rush trail of 98 parallels the tract in some places.

5. A diesel powered train dropping down into Skagway ahead of us.

6. A diesel powered passenger was waiting on the dock when we returned.

Cheers,
Jack

As I recall, a comment from a crew member of the WP&Y (single track railroad)that only the Long Island Railroad (single track railroad) hauls more passengers. The WP&Y is a very enjoyable event and if one has the time the full day trip is also very enjoyable, however, the steam engine doesn't usually make that long trip.

I know the bridge has been out of service a long time and for the most part has not been maintained, but the steel portion looks in "relatively" good shape, while the wood bents are, lets say is in "very bad" shape! The last wood bent, next to the steel portion, has pulled clear of the deck.
