Looks to me that it's in the next valley to the east, the flat area is where the Forest Products Millyards are now. Low sun suggests late in the day, fall or winter. I don't know what the track arrangement is all about though, there is/was some tracks in where I'm thinking. there would be a hill to stand on but there's some houses in that area now. Maybe there's a road, not sure. Bob would know. Date: 07/28/14 12:16 Re: Steam Sunday: Yreka 1957 Author: Stevo_Weimario Great image, thanks Matt! Lovin' that Pennsy wagon top boxcar, too.

To the right of the 19 is the depot and copper deposit reload, both of which still exist. The photographer is standing on Butcher Hill. Matt Starman Greenleaf, ID Edited 1 time(s). Looking around for info I ran across this photo next to the station: http://dtl.lib.umt.edu/cdm/singleitem/collection/pharchives/id/7309/rec/17 Oops, this might explain part of what's going on: http://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/granule/USCOURTS-caed-2_12-cv-02692/USCOURTS-caed-2_12-cv-02692-2/content-detail.html Here's a recent photo on Google that confirms the Station area, the hills in the background line up: https://www.google.com/maps/@41.726086,-122.631841,3a,75y,90t/data=!3m5!1e2!3m3!1s64709835!2e1!3e10 Always interesting to work out these older photos. After putting in 3 years at the Yreka Western and co-authoring a book on the railroad I don't really have to guess at any of the locations anymore. They just stand out.
I-5 would be to the left nowadays. Matt Starman Greenleaf, ID Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 07/28/14 14:47 by YWRR19. Date: 07/28/14 15:13 Re: Steam Sunday: Yreka 1957 Author: nycman That's a great photo Matt, and a shame that we will never see that again at Yreka.
Date: 07/28/14 15:35 Re: Steam Sunday: Yreka 1957 Author: TCnR I would think you have the building and trees memorized. I don't spend that much time in Yreka, the direction of the sunlight and green grass threw me off. I thought it was out near the grade crossing at this link, but around the turn a ways near the mill:
https://www.google.com/maps/@41.737949,-122.60432,3a,75y,132.97h,94.5t/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1srefiT1pm74jFOggcykFD9g!2e0 There's a mountain peak that I was looking for, but it would be behind the plume of steam. I'll need to look for the book and see how the industries were laid out back in the day. Quite a few interesting stories from the mining areas as well. Edited 2 time(s).
