Road Trip!
Author: BDrotarIII

Last week I posted pictures of 5632 from my trip. The company I work for was shut down for the week after the 4th of July, so I took a road trip up to Canada, through to MI, and down to Indiana. The first day was the science museum in Ottawa.

1. The CN 6400. Very cool 4-8-4!

2. CP 3100. One of the oldest 4-8-4's left, I believe the 3751 and 3759 are the only ones that are older.

3. You can get in the cab of both the 3100 and the 2858, the Royal Hudson that is there. This is the view forward.

4. The engineers side of the cab of the 2858. Everything at the museum is in great shape.

5. 2 4-8-4's and a Hudson, How many museums in the US can say that!

6. The CN 6200 is parked out in front of the museum, in pretty sad shape.

Wonderful pics. I went through that museum in the '80s and I am thrilled to see all the great shape inside. The 6200 looks the same way as it did in the Stratford scrap line back in the late 50s. Main rod wired to the running board. She sure deserves some TLC.

Hmmmm, I'm pretty sure this would be the image you're talking about. From the Niagara Railway Museum Inc. Collection, off ebay I believe...

Thanks for these great pictures! I am completly in love with the CP 4-8-4's....just like CP2816. Those CN locomotives are cool too....Did you get any close-ups of the valves and motion??

I believe that CP had only two 4-8-4's, the 3100 and the 3101. I think the 3101 is in Regina, Saskatchewan. The 6400 is the only U4b ( semi-streamlined CN
4-8-4 left. Glad to see that they're under cover. 6200 does look forlorn, but there are multiple examples of the CN Northerns around - although most are outside in the elements :-(.

Yep I took that picture.. This was a P&G special to Crystal Beach. Two sections. Second special pulled by 2-8-2 3509 fired by Bill Sands as I found our later. We had to do a saw-by to get around these two trains.

Note the kid in the picture. I believe he was selling gum.
