August 13th, 2014 The Board of Directors of the Tom E. Dailey Foundation Inc., has announced the following 14 grants, totaling $44,765.00, at its August 9, 2014 quarterly board meeting: New Mexico Steam Locomotive & Railway Historical Society, Albuquerque, N.M.; $7500 The group is restoring Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe 4-8-4 steam locomotive No. 2926 — an Albuquerque landmark of historical value — to running condition. The project began in 2000 and is expected to be completed by 2016. The locomotive will be used to provide excursions in New Mexico in celebration of railroad heritage. The grant is for a portion of the cost of fabricating a modernized version of a brake stand subsystem to meet FRA certification. http://www.railfan.com/railnews/ Of the 14 grant awards, the 2926 group received the highest amount. Most of the others were in the $1000 to $3000 range. Congratulations to the hard working 2926 volunteers!! If I lived there and was about ten years younger, I'd be in there with you. I don't think I have another restoration in me. Did way too much free gratis items on railroad equipment as well as building track, etc, etc for tourist lines and some guy comes along with a booger hanging out of his nose wanting to run the choo choo and he gets whatever he wants. Kind of soured on that but certainly glad there are other groups restoring items where things like that don't happen. I hope to see it run.
