3 Extinct Manufacturer Brands - All In One Shot- 1954!
Author: LoggerHogger

I have always loved this shot taken by my late friend, Al Farrow. Al did not have to travel very far to capture this classic scene. He was only a few blocks from his home in Auburn, Washington when he captured this simple caboose hop as Northern Pacific #1619 was heading back to the NP shops.

The date was November 10, 1954 and Al not only captured the ALCO built 2-8-2 but also the automobiles of the day. We have a Studebaker on the road in the foreground and an ad for the "new" Nash autos on the billboard.

Today, 60 years later, these 3 brand names in the transportation industry are long gone. Fortunately for us, the rail line shown in the photo is still with us though the scene has changed somewhat.

Thanks Al for saving this for us.

Perhaps this is Auburn Way with the loco inbound on the Stampede Pass line. Great shot. Oh..the overpass was replaced in BN days.

While the Nash line may be extinct, the building they were made in is still going. I'm sitting in it right now working away (well, other than the immediate TO break I'm taking). Today we build communication satellites in the old Nash plant in El Segundo, Ca.

El Segundo!!!!! Birthplace of many great Douglas airplanes! I knew about Douglas, but didn't know about Nash. In high school I suffered the world's greatest embarrassment.....over and over again as my parents made me use the 'Rambler' for dates. Oh, how mortifying!

I think the car under the bridge is a Hudson . . .

Car under the bridge could be an Oldsmobile. That's extinct, too.

Car under the bridge might be a 1947 Buick. Speaking of Nash, I found this descendant of the Nash Motor Co. in Kenosha (home of the main Nash plant) last year when I was looking for the North Shore interurban station.

At the east end of today's South Shore Line is the South Bend airport, which is very nice and modern, and includes this meeting room, as well as direct electric railway service to downtown Chicago.

These are souvenirs of my visit to Chicagoland and Illinois Ry. Museum last year.

What is the address of the old Nash plant in El Segundo? I'd be curious to find it on a satellite view.

Regards that car under the bridge, at first I thought it to be a Chevy, but, on closer inspection, the grill looks Chevy to me, but the body looks like a more expensive GM car, such as a Buick, Olds, or Pontiac. I did not even notice the car under the bridge until it was pointed out. I don't mind being old so much, but do wish I had younger eyes, not to mention a few other parts. AA

I too work in El Segundo ! Started @ Hughes back in the early 1980's. Walked thru that old Nash plant many times on the way from R1/R2 to R7/8/9. Now belongs to Boeing. I'm now down off of El Segundo Blvd.

I wonder how many people know where the Nash street name originated ? If only they had an interest in history :)
