The 2-8-2 puts on quite a show to match or better many steam operations. More than a 3% grade and they allow riding on the open platform. Skagway , AK to Frazier Meadows, BC.

We rode the "Bennett Scenic Journey" on July 16 all the way to Carcross...no steam but a great ride anyway. That was a week to the day before the derailment at White Pass. Next trip "up north" I'll have to try and time it with a steam day on the WPYR.

The White Pass website advertises the run to Frasier Meadows as a steam excursion, the rest are with the shovel nose diesels.
