There is STEAM in Cheyenne!
Author: DavidMKetchum

Was out running errands this afternoon in Cheyenne and driving down West Lincolnway by the Cheyenne Ice and Event Center and I detected the smell of COAL SMOKE! Pulled into the parking lot and Wasatch Railroad Contractors were running a little LIVE STEAM 4-4-0 on their loop by the ice center. The place was packed. The layout is not completely finish and opening date is not until spring of 2015, but it was decided to run this weekend. The turnout was good with only Facebook postings and a couple of the local radio and TV stations making the announcement.

Enjoy!

Steamtown is not in Cheyenne and has nothing to do with the soap opera that is the UP Steam Program.

Considering that STEAMtown had it's annual Railfest
this weekend and the only steam they had running
was a live steamer, I'd say there is more in common
then you realize.

All the while, CP #2317 sits out of service, CN #3254
has not ran since last year and will likely be retired.
Their Baldwin 0-6-0 has been under restoration for
well over a decade while B&M 3717 continues it's
near decade long restoration with extra hands now that
the help is no longer working on PRR #1361.

Still - there's A LOT more happening at both Cheyenne
and Scranton then there is in Jacksonville, FL and
even Fort Worth, TX.

Yes, with a new all-welded boiler and firebox.

Doubt it.

He despises Wasatch and everyone connected
to it, and will not hesitate to say so if asked.

The engineer running the Cagney is Mike Lewis, who used to fire/run full size steam at Heber. One heck of a nice guy.

I plan to volunteer this spring also Bob. It was fun to see the layout at the ice center working. I discovered that my camera battery was on "life support" shortly after I arrived, so I got only a limited number of pictures. The kids, both adult and real, were having a good time riding. Some of the young kids had to be reminded that there were others that wanted to ride.

Doesn't suprise me given his "I know more than anyone" mentality. Still to this day cannot fathom that mindset, I'll bet even the shop workers in Cheyenne during the 50's were still learning and asking questions right till the end of steam.

Qualification turn
Author: Bob3985

Here was my turn on the Cagney earlier this year. Kind of like an elephant on a skateboard, Huh? Well I plan to make myself available to help next summer when I can get away from the office. I can even be a conductor as I have my old UTU card too, LOL.

I believe they have at least two Cagney's, don't they? A rebuilt original and a reproduction, or something like that? I remember being told that at least one of them was for sale, so I guess they might only have the one at this time.

Sounds like John Rimmasch plans on building a them park around his mini railroad! I'll definitely visit it! I'll bring my grandson.

Thanks for the update and post ... makes little difference as to the scale of the steam ... the wonder and amazement makes it all worthwhile ... how boiling water and some "engunears" make the energy transfer happen in such a dynamic way ...

Hope to vsit Cheyenne when the new steam loop is opened ...
