Just now getting around to posting a few from the two day trip with CATS using their K27 #463.

Just random great shots!

How typical was a consist as featured - 9 cars and a caboose with
one engine on that part of the line? Did it happen? Often, or
were trains typically much longer and /or had more then one engine?

It was just a made-up consist for the excursion. Thanks for looking Mitch.

Bigger trains indeed would require helpers to Cumbres Pass. That train looks about near the limit for the K27 by herself.

463 is good for 183 tons on the west side of Cumbres. The train shown is about 115 tons. I've pulled about 160 tons (7 wood cars and 2 steel tanks)with 463. She did quite well, you just can't be in a hurry.

Didn't mean to imply maybe that the consist was not
authentic - it's a great looking train. I was just
curious, not knowing - were there such trains that
ran that line - short 9 car single engine consists?

Maybe worth separate discussion.
