Steam & Excursion > Milwaukee Road 261 9.28.2014Date: 09/28/14 21:18 Milwaukee Road 261 9.28.2014 Author: alco636 The Milwaukee Road lives on these days. Partially due to the work of volunteers with Friends Of The 261. For many years Judy Sandberg played a huge role in the organization. I had a heavy heart these past few days since I learned of her loss due to cancer. Here's a very good article from the Minneapolis paper: http://m.startribune.com/local/277339111.html
The 261 ran to Duluth, MN on 9.27. Unfortunately I had to miss seeing this run due to spending time with a friend in the ER. (She's ok.) I did get out today on Sunday. Here's what I got to see. #1 I camped out at the Fridley Northstar commuter station. The BNSF Staples sub is one busy railroad! Here we see an eastbound oil train waiting. Two westbounds are also in the photo. One departing. #2 The sun had set before the 261 rolled into view. This isn't a great view. But she's proudly leading her train. #3 In a dramatic turn of events, a three way meet was made. Two westbounds encircled the 261s train. It was a moment I'll never forget. Judy Sandberg was a great person. For the weekend the 261 carried her name on the cab side. Here's to you Judy. You were good. Al Seever Phoenix, AZ Edited 1 time(s). Thank you sincerely Steve. I was just in the right place at the right time. I'm really proud of that shot. It was a very dramatic moment. Never seen a three way meet before.
