Southern Saturday
Author: Vanakatherock

Good afternoon everyone! This weekend was a great weekend for me with my adventure to NW Georgia starting on Friday and ending on Saturday. On Saturday, I pursued Southern 4501 from Rossville, GA down to Summerville, GA. Below, you will see a few photos and a video from the trip!

1: Coming through Rossville, GA.

2: Next up, Rock Spring, GA and an old building that a lot of railfans like to have as a background in their shot.

3: In the town of Lafayette, GA.

4: On the back roads between LaFayette and Trion, GA.

5: Coming through Trion, GA in the rain.

6: One more in Trion after the train had to stop to flag a crossing.

Last time I saw the 4501 was at Front Royal around 1974. Seems to me that she was painted in Crescent green, but I'm not sure about my memory on that one,

That's correct, the engine was in Southern Green at that time.

Nice pics and video. Question? In the video the train appears to move only 15-20 mph. Was that the speed for the trip or just happens to be that way where you did the video?

Speed on the entire line is about 15-20MPH with 15 being the average. Makes for a very easy chase.
