With over 50 miles of track to run on both along the coast and up to the Salmonberry Canyon, the OCSR has quite a variety of trestles along the line. Here are just some of the ones we were on last week.

Does this line carry freight anymore or is it strictly excursion trains? All those bridges look costly to maintain.

This line is isolated due to flood damage so there is no way to interchange traffic.

Todd,

Currently the line iss still isolated with no freight. Yes the bridges are expensive to maintain, but so is the track itself. We had a $10,000 rock slide near Salmonberry just the week before the charter that we had to clean up.

The line is certainly a treasure for events like this.

What a treasure. How money would it take to reopen the line to the network? If it was reopened is their potential for freight business? Hats off to the group for keeping what they have open. It must be one of the most scenic lines in the West.

Todd,

The last 8 miles will take several millions in repairs due to the washouts. There is freight business from the mills in Tillamook to make this feasible. Also the fiber optics companies want the line reconnected so their fiber can also be reconnected.

Let's just say we are working to do what we can to make facilitate reconnection of the line to Portland. No one thought we could get up to Salmonberry let along past Salmonberry as we have already done.

Stay tuned.
