Reading & Northern's gutsy Pacific 425 shouting out exhaust on the uphill climb on the Nesquehoning branch, the guys in the diesel must have been on a break!

Great video and recording Ed. I was 2-miles away, set up for a broadside on the Hometown Trestle or High Bridge as the locals call it. I heard every one of those exhaust beats, clearly from that distance.

Fantastic sound. Thank goodness no bell, just that pounding up hill. Love it. That is really great music to the ears.

Correct title should be "steam and diesel in color."

But you stated, "The guys in the diesel must have been on a break.". So that "green thing" is an additional water tender then?

I love watching the exhaust blow those leaves around. From the looks of the roof tops, 425 shook a few branches. What's the BTU content of burnt leaves in the firebox?

Nice echo effect too. She has a nice sharp exhaust like 1522 had, just not quite as loud. No excess whistling, just the sound of the engine working. Tom, I doubt if you could hear the bell. 1522 was like that. Working full out coming at you the bell was swinging, but you didn't hear it until it got right next to you. That's LOUD!

Pretty clean stack for a working coal burner on a grade..

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Video does no justice, the exhaust is crisp and deafening. It's by far the loudest engine I've ever heard in person.

Now that brings back a lot of memories! When I was a kid growing up that's the sound I heard every day. I've never been to Ohio?, but think I want to go there!
