Steam & Excursion > Sickening Sunday SubjectDate: 11/23/14 15:45 Sickening Sunday Subject Author: Frisco1522 Makes me sick to look at this. There but for the grace of God goes the 1522. This was in either Granite City or Madison, IL. Thousands of engines met death there.

My recall is that the book "the End of Steam" sold pretty well, and was a major work of the time...but that was a long time ago. Back to the subject, I recall those dead lines....they were heartbreaking, but, so long as those old timers still existed, one could wish/hope for a big business turnaround so they would be returned to service. I know, that would never happen, but this teenager (at the time) still had hope, that is until those lines shrunk and disappeared. Heartbreaking times for a lover of steam. I heard they made a Corp Name Change Date: 11/25/14 09:23 Re: Sickening Sunday Subject Author: PERichardson Not in steam days, not that it really matters at this point.
Date: 11/25/14 12:22 Re: Sickening Sunday Subject Author: steam290 Steam always has the last laugh, when it comes to popular appeal. Even an Alco PA takes a slight back seat to steam, (no offense to diesel fans).
Date: 11/29/14 19:53 Re: Sickening Sunday Subject Author: DNRY122 Let's lift the mood a bit. We'll never return to the days when steam locomotives and interurban cars were part of everyday life, but we have had some days when the past comes back to life.
1) Santa Fe 3751 sits cold, silent and motionless in San Bernardino back around 1972. 2) 40 years later, 3751 steams along a former Pacific Electric route down the middle of the San Bernardino Freeway. |
