A couple of notes about the Antonito Christmas train:

A total of 825 passengers road the 4 trains that ran on Sunday. The Marines Toys for Tots collected hundreds of toy contributions--enough that they did not even count the toys on Sunday, but will do so sometime in the next few days.

Another wonderful gesture was that the retired and active Marines with the Toys for Tots program in attendance for the Antonito Christmas Trains presided over a minute of silence to commemorate the attack on Pearl Harbor 73 years ago on Sunday. Between the first and second train--after passengers for the second train had been loaded onboard, the train was backed to the east side of the Antonito depot, where the United States and Colorado flags were flying at half-staff on the flagpoles. The minute of silence was then observed by the train crews, passengers, railroad personnel, and Marines, bookended by single long whistle blasts from Engine 489. The timing was search that the ceremony was conducted at approximately the same clock time that Pearl Harbor was under attack on December 7, 1941.

So, Pearl Harbor may have been forgotten in other places on Sunday, but not on the Cumbres & Toltec!

The next round of Christmas trains (and final ones for this Christmas season) will run this Saturday, December 13th, out of Chama. Like the trains that ran last Saturday (December 6th), these runs will be for benefit of the Food Bank serving northern New Mexico. The only "payment" necessary to ride the Christmas train this Saturday is a donation of a non-perishable food item to the Food Bank, which can be dropped off at the Chama depot.

Anyone wishing to ride can make a reservation on-line at the railroad's website http://www.cumbrestoltec.com , or by calling the railroad at 888-286-2737. If anyone from outside the area wishes to make a cash donation to the Food Bank or to help defray the operating costs of the train, they may do so by contacting the railroad.

Roger,
A huge thank-you for making the effort to drive over the icy road across the pass to make this video. It gives all who live so far away a chance to participate in a great day. Your efforts throughout the years are just wonderful!!

The effort put forth by the railroad to decorate the train inside and out was evident. That is a great looking train!

The Toys for Tots Foundation has a great partner in the C&TS RR. Here's hoping this becomes an annual event.
