It looks like good throttle operation to me, keeping the train moving right on the edge of slipping. It never stalled.
Is this an example of a loco slightly out of square? Date: 12/14/14 14:50 Re: Christmas Train Slipping Big Time Author: Wacky-roger1942 pmack Wrote:

I was told it was because nothing had been on the track for a week and the engine hadn't moved for a week and the sanders could not help with the engine in reverse. They love to wait until you are blowing the whistle to break loose and slip. I got caught a couple of times like that. Embarassing. 1522 had a sanding line for backing moves also, which came in handy.

Date: 12/14/14 15:25 Re: Christmas Train Slipping Big Time Author: Earlk Unless they have been changed, all the C&TS engines are set up with sanders for forward motion only. That is all four sander pipes come down in front of the drivers pointed to the rear to put sand under the #1 and #3 drivers when moving forward. Pulling backward is not going to work too well when things get slippery - as the video shows. Good bit of throttle jockeying by the hogger though.

Did they go as far as Dalton or stop at Lobato to run the engine around? That section from the trestle to Dalton is awfully steep to be running in reverse. |
