Steam & Excursion > Finallly! The Skookum Boiler Is Back On Her Frame!!Date: 12/16/14 10:17 Finallly! The Skookum Boiler Is Back On Her Frame!! Author: LoggerHogger In just about an hour's time this morning our OCSR shop crews were able to place Skookum's rebuilt boiler on her rebuilt frame and engine base.
It has been nearly 60 years since the boiler and engine have been connected - and upright! This is a huge step. Very soon her new cab will be on her. Her tender is already in Tillamook so this project is coming together - Literally!! Martin Edited 2 time(s). Last edit at 12/16/14 10:20 by LoggerHogger. Date: 12/16/14 10:25 Re: Finallly! Author: wag216 Looking at the "Skookum",s little sister, the Deep River 4-6-2 (the smallest one ever) is still back east. How about a double-header? ( Well, I can dream, can't I) <lol> wag216

Also, once restoration is complete will the engine remain on the OCSR or be moved down to the California Western? Ryan Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 12/16/14 12:45 by ryan199. Date: 12/16/14 15:15 Re: Finallly! The Skookum Boiler Is Back On Her Frame! Author: flash34 Jim, no tubes yet. That plus minor staybolt work is all the boiler requires.

Author: nycman flash, after I asked that question, it dawned on me that she probably has to endure the 1472 treatment, so tubes would definitely not be installed yet. I am learning, slowly.

An interesting non-sequitur - the salt flat, the largest on earth, is used to calibrate altimeters on satellites. Date: 12/20/14 14:57 Re: Finallly! The Skookum Boiler Is Back On Her Frame! Author: Cumbresfan Is there an estimated steam up date? Summer 2015 or later in the year?
Date: 12/20/14 21:07 Re: Finallly! The Skookum Boiler Is Back On Her Frame! Author: flash34 I'd say 2016 might be more likely.
