Thank you, Mr. Hansen. That was a good day and my only trip (so far) over La Veta. With no prior planning I managed to do it on the last day of steam for the season and right after a heavy snowfall.

Good times!

It might also be the last steam over La Veta, Jason. Everything I hear is no more steam on the SL&RG.

I believe you're correct, Tom. No more steam on the SLRG, at least for now. Hopefully IP/EEE will bring it back in the future.

However, that photo is from 2009. Definitely not the last steam trip over La Veta.

If they're planning on dropping steam, what are they going to do with their engines?

Not much for now, 1771 is still apart, slowly getting fixed and 19 and 20 sit.

That's very beautiful photo, Jason!
Man -- did you ever luck out!

Merry Christmas and best wishes for a
wonderful year to you and yours!

SO sorry to hear that steam will no
longer run on the SL&RG. What a
bummer! I do hope it comes back in
the not-too-distant future.

(Yeah, I know how very expensive it is
to run steam locomotives, compared to
diesels. Also, it may be that most of the
SL&RG's passengers come mostly for the
scenery and the ride, and don't care that
much about what is pulling the train.)
