SMV 21 and 205
Author: pdxsteam

I was coming through Independence, OR this morning and couldn't help but think about Santa Maria Valley #205, which is being restored to operating condition in a warehouse somewhere in town. This of course also reminded me of SMV #21 which is being restored in Astoria. Anyone have any updates (or even better, recent photos) of these projects? There's little to no info about #205 and the website for #21 hasn't been updated since March of last year.

Drove by the engine house in Independence about an hour ago. There was no sign of activity.

The 205 in Independence is about 99% finished. George (Oregons oldest living bipod) expects to fire her up
This spring. He's currently waiting on the Oregon dept.of agriculture to issue the permits.
It is a Baldwin Pig afterall. They call me the Ironduke!!

#205 is VERY close to being steamed up, although I don't believe there's a date set. #21 is further out.

We last did a report here was in July when we completed the Hydro on SMV #205. Since then the work has progressed well and a fire up is only a couple of weeks away.

Yes, she sure will. For the time being she will be running up and back the full length of the Valley & Siletz Ry!

OK, but you sure don't need GPS to find both ends of that!

Do you mean the full 33 miles to Valsetz, or the 22 miles to Hoskins?
