Steam & Excursion > A Conductor's View Behind Steam On The Shasta Route!Date: 01/26/15 03:17 A Conductor's View Behind Steam On The Shasta Route! Author: LoggerHogger Here is another in my series of lucky railfans who were able to hop aboard steam freights back in the day and get a crewman's perspective with their camera.
Today's photo was mislabeled by the unnamed photographer as Likely Loop on the Modoc Line. Thanks to those folks below we now know that is is on the Shasta Route between Black Butte and Andesite. Thanks for spotting this so I can correct the negative sleeve. Martin Edited 5 time(s). Last edit at 01/26/15 14:20 by LoggerHogger. This is a view between Black Butte and Andesite on the Shasta Route main line. Best regards, Rob L. Date: 01/26/15 09:29 Re: A Conductor's View On The Modoc At Likely Loop! Author: TonyJ rob_l Wrote:

The Likely Loop runs more or less through cuts in the side of the hill. And as Rob L. points out the block signal is definately not Modoc there. The Modoc has never been signaled territory. Definitely along the Shasta Route somewhere. Matt Starman Greenleaf, ID Date: 01/26/15 10:22 Re: A Conductor's View On The Modoc At Likely Loop! Author: spnudge My guess is that it is just east of Black Butte, on the first left hand curve after the east switch. If you were able to back the camera up, it would show Mt. Shasta where a lot of pictures were taken of trains coming at you. The track goes thru that cut, across "The Devil's Garden" and to the west switch at Hotlum.

Cut, hill in background and the forest service road are a match

Starting in the lower right and curving up the grade and to the left in the distance. Date: 01/27/15 08:49 Re: A Conductor's View On The Modoc At Likely Loop! Author: Copy19 The image looks like track covered with dirt on my PC and mini pad. The landscape in the foreground is blurred as if the image was taken at speed.

Looks just like approach to Pequop siding, east of Wells/Moore,Nevada!..And regarding blurred track: You never know what parts of images Google might blur out now-days,for security reasons. Or one would think the image was taken by a drone, or a Google camera car having a very bumpy ride!, but the shadows look almost sharp. Anyway another great photo! (#1).
