Back To The Past.....Those mighty SP 4-8-2's
Author: Barstool

The first photo is taken at west Ozol and WB 4371 is really leaning into it and will keep up the spead until she reach Nevada dock and then will ease off and roll by Port costa at about 25MPH, here at West ozol, she is doing about 45 MPH...The date is June 1951
The second photo is also at West Ozol and WB 4326 is also opening up after getting thru Martinez and will do the same as the W 4371
The third shot is the WB 4326 again and its Sept 1951 and WB 4326 is just opening up after passing the Cannery...After WW2, the MT's began moving freight and for years after WW2, the MT's ruled the Western division..It wasn't uncommon for a MT. to make a round trip between Roseville and Oakland every 24 hours and I logged the 4359 that made three trips between Roseville and Oakland, these were good engines..

Great photos Barstool. Any chance of a book out there? I've seen your others as well. Fantastic!

SP MT Class with the skyline casting: Just the best Looking steam engine ever.

Just one man's opinion.

Thanks for sharing these images.

With or without the skyline casing, they are great looking 4-8-2s.

If just one SP locomotive could have been preserved of all that were, a 4300 would get my vote.
Thanks for some great shots.

Have fun, be safe,
