Something about the museum needed money for a cosmetic restore
Posted from iPhone Date: 02/24/15 07:01 Re: CMStP&P 1207: Heritage Author: Indiana_Trainman The locomotive and cars were moved under cover next to a new building built east of the existing museum as center for transportation history in the area in the 1990s. A former L&N dining/work train car was added to the consist as well and is connected to the building to display a model railroad layout. The new building is known as EMTRAC. The building the train sat next to previously was restored in the 1990s and is now the home of the Convention & Visitors Bureau. In addition, LST 325 (only operating WWII vintage ship) is housed just up river from the museum site.

While it may be (and probably is) the only operable WW II combat ship, there is an operable WW II liberty (cargo) ship in San Francisco. It also runs regularly. It has a Turbine engine vs. Reciprocating in the Liberty Ship. --Jim Baker Date: 03/01/15 06:26 Re: CMStP&P 1207: Heritage Author: BaltoJoey An operable Liberty Ship, the SS John W. Brown,
is located in Baltimore, MD. It is occasionally used for cruises. PS: The John W. Brown was built and launched in Baltimore.
