The Little Engine That Still Thinks It Can!

Her is the Little Engine that still thinks it can!

This is no Photoshop; just an advantageous use of a Mill stack behind the smoke stack. The engine is an Alco product of 1919 and shown here out of service in 1995 at Mill 320, Juan Avila, Matanzas Province, Cuba. This piston valved 2-8-0 was originally built for the Havana Central RR as their 268 and was renumbered into the Minaz roster as 1814. It looks like we arrived a little to late to see the 1814 in active service, but it sure looks like it has the spirit to go!

Did someone put something in the smoke box and light it?

Well, No. No one put a fire in the smokebox. There was a tall smoke stack right behind the engine that was pouring out a heavy black exhaust; the stack from the sugar mill.

It does seem like the engine still wants to go, even if there are a few parts missing!
