FEF-3 Feedwater Heaters
Author: up3985

I know that a number of UP FEF-3s reciecevd new smokebox Worthington feedwater heaters, but not all. Which ones received them before their retirement? I know 844 did, In Krattville's Mighty 800, there's pics of 835 and 839 with them. Any others anyone knows of?

I've found pics of 843 with one as well.

Not all 45 had them, I'm only asking about the FEF-3 and not all of them had them, 838 is an example. It still has the sewer pipe on the firebox.

My mistake. 833 is an FEF-2.

Can you be a bit clearer on exactly what you are asking about? Yes, all 45 of the FEF class locomotive had feedwater systems, and as part of those systems there was indeed a "pump".

I think he is asking, how many of the FEF locomotives were not equipped with a Worthington SA feedwater heater?

None of the FEF class locomotives were delivered with a Worthington system.

Yes, and if you must know why I'm asking, it's for accuracy so I know which ones did have the Worthington feedwater heater in Train Simulator 2015. A gentleman has created the FEF-3 for the sim and it's basically the most accurately modeled engine for the game yet, but the model is basically only the 844, but there's the option to remove the mars light and smoke defectors, and I want to know which numbers are accurate to reflect the Worthington feedwater heater application numbers.

OK, now your request makes sense. Listed below are all the FEF Class locomotives that the Union Pacific up-grade to the Worthington S Type Feedwater system:

835 year unknown

837 1952

839 1956

841 By 1953

843 By 1954

844 By 1955
