No work on 02/28 - snow day in ABQ with 9+ inches of the white stuff. Sure need a shelter with a strong roof!

Well, it was not much fun but that is how NKP 765 was overhauled the first time. Just packing all tools and loose equipment at the end of each day was a huge time waster. A well insulated refrigerator car close by with a small electric heater provided some heat. 2X4's and visqueen or tarps kept some of the snow and rain off the work, and volunteers.

Looks pretty sad sitting out in the snow like that. Almost like being back in the park. Everything does better under a roof.

We restored 1522 outside. After a few months, we we able to move her up the hill and under a roof and had a couple of reefers for tool storage. We started in September and winter in the open was fun.

The massive shops still exist in Abq, owned by the city, yet this engine sits outside, when it could be residing in a huge bay with overhead cranes. It's a shame the city can't make a decision to fund the restoration of the structure to provide a fitting permanent home for this engine. Meanwhile the group is considering a one stall Enginehouse for storage.

Yes, I remember, I was there. And the largest pieces of equipment we had, IIRC, were a front-end loader and a truck. We did it in 5 years and meanwhile the 1225 languished for at least double that amount of time. IIRC, their work was on the Michigan State Campus, also outside.

IIRC, T&P 610 was restored outdoors for service on the American Freedom Train.

Remember ABQ is much drier - usually 7-9 inches of precipitation each year. It's very rare that work days are cancelled due to bad weather. These past few weeks have been different - cold and wet.

From the email I got, I think its the same person who took the photos. And in those comments, too, they say they need a roof.

They must be doing something right with the cats. They only work twice a week, and the cats are always there. If they weren't being fed, they'd be gone by now.
