Author: glord After RI collapse 5629 sat at roundhouse until it was scraped at a later date. The tender looks like it is from a larger loco but I do not have any more details. Has to be a story here maybe someone has details?

MI. I rode behind 5629 two or three times in Michigan back in the 1960s. It was a great puller, and if anyone has a spare mil or two, I'm sure a suitable place to run GTW 5632 could be found... John. A plinth is the base of a statue or monument, so a plinthed loco is one that that is resting quietly in some park. A recently deplinthed loco is that UP 4-8-8-4... There are lots of 'prisoners' that need to be set free from captivity, enter restoration / rejuvenation, and return to the high-iron. ;-) John. Author: andersonb109 Plinthed is a very common word used in the U.K. and elsewhere to describe a locomotive displayed on a perminent base as opposed to just a piece of track. The practice seems to be much more widely used in Europe than in North America.

The scrapping of 5629, and Jensen's CB&Q 5632, will remain at the top of the list for greatest travesties in modern steam preservation history, followed next, IMHO, by the scrapping of C&O 2-8-2 No. 1189 and the other two K-4 Kanawhas. I know, we already have 12 C&O K-4s on display, do we really miss two more? YES! If only HVRM would get serious about 2789 we would have the possibilty of a NKP/PM/C&O Super Power 2-8-4 reunion. Alright, before this thread gets even more hijacked....
Sincerely, TrackGuy Date: 03/26/15 11:44 Re: GTW 5629 awaits it,s future at Blue Island in 1980,s. Author: OLCO107 Not to be picky, but 5629 was class K4-a, while 5632 [with vestibule cab] was classK4-b.
