Attention all UP steam shop workers in Cheyanne....
Author: CPRR

......see right below.

It is a shame and a total farce that NS beat you to restoring a steam locomotive in less than one year. How can you live with yourselves, wasting corporate money with nothing to show for it, and yet NS got their 611 locomotive work for free.

I am ashamed to admit this UP Steam Crew, but I do not think I can support you anymore. My loyalty will be with 3751, 4449, and now the 611 group.

Someone wake up Omaha!!!!!!

Who is this "UP Steam Crew" of which you speak? My understanding of "crew" usually denotes
a group larger than one.

Out

You can bet this news of 611 firing up less than a year after it went in the shop is like a black eye to Ed and the so called UP steam crew. A year later and what have they really done out there besides go in circles?

Well actually, the dear leader and his minions have pretty much disassembled the inside of the steam shop, whiteout accomplishing ANYTHING on either of the three steam locomotives, five diesel units, and the big rotary snow plow. Everyone in management on the UP must be extremely proud!

0, zilch, nada! Just a stupid talk at the Train Show in Denver then pissing off most of us die hard fans and former steam crew on how much longer it'll take to get the engines back up and running! They need people who know how to get a steamer going, and like what the 611 crew, 2926 crew, and even the guys up in Alaska are doing, they're doing it right and not making stupid excuses about it!

que up the Ed Dickens response that the former crew left it in such bad shape blah blah blah. Dickins inherited a working locomotive 6 years into its 15 year cycle. Had it boarder line scrap in 4 short years..

We need to give all this a rest.

No, we DO NOT!  The total disaster of the UP steam operations at Cheyenne is bordering on criminal, and hopefully will come to conclusion at the court proceeding in July.

I agree, or....we could ask Todd to make a separate forum just for UP Steam Program threads!

I am in total agreement! It is beyond criminal, and other than someone wanting to cover up, or avoid the distribution of forthcoming information (the truth) regarding any of the previous actions in Cheyenne, there is certainly NO NEED for a separate thread or section on this topic. Maybe a few of you should come to reality and refrain trying to turn reality into wishful thinking

That's not fair.  Actually, they've gone about 20 years
backwards.

He inherited 2 operating steam locomotives.

Ignored one and trashed the other one.  And it only
took from 2011 to mid-2013 to do it. Only 2 1/2 years.

Also, NS is poking UP in the eye by repainting the
shabby-looking DDA40X for the St. Louis Museum.

NS is adding F units; UP is ignoring the E9's it has.
949 has become almost a permanent fixture in KC.

Facts, the facts they want are the all talk and no walk on what the timetable is on getting the 3 steamers going! I hope when July hits and Ed's out, they waste no time getting the mess cleaned up and get at least 3985 running since she hasn't been touched since 2011?

In all fairness, you cannot really blame the workers for this embarassment.

Well, maybe you can blame 2 of them, as they are willing accomplices.

The other 3 or 4 or however few are left are only allowed to do what
dl and his snitches allow them to do.  Plus, none of them have ever
done any steam locomotive work aside from shining the chrome, so
they have no more idea what to do or where to start than does their
exhalted dl.

It was running in 2010, and was ready to run in 2011,
but he wouldn't allow it.

I remember the day I read the announcement that 3985 wasn't going. "Due to it just being down there last fall blah blah blah..."
