"The 220-mile, one-way May 30 trip will see the powerful Class J stride along the former Southern Railway main line and enter home rails at Lynchburg. There, the engine will retrace its regular service route when it pulled N&W’s named passenger trains across the fabled Blue Ridge grade." Spencer north to Lynchburg via High Point, Salisbury, Greensboro and Danville is the former Southern Railway main line. Date: 04/21/15 08:08 Re: 611's route from Spencer to Roanoke? They turned the 630 on both of these during some mini-excursions a couple years ago. Date: 04/21/15 23:37 Re: 611's route from Spencer to Roanoke? Author: Clinchfield3000 NCDOTF59 Wrote:

Yes, but they had to do some special work on the tracks such as widening the gauge on some sharp curves. Date: 04/22/15 05:53 Re: 611's route from Spencer to Roanoke? Author: Moonshiner Punkin Vine is the NS Winston Salem District south out of Roanoke to W-S. I live near it in Rocky Mount VA.

Date: 04/22/15 10:26 Re: 611's route from Spencer to Roanoke? Author: lapklub They are supposed to run it around the NCTM property on Thursday May 28 for a little break in special. They are going to have some photo opportunities all day and into the evening, all for $250.00 !! I had heard a while back that they might do something before the Big Day on May 30. $250.00 is a little steep, but that will keep the crowds down. I would have considered it at $75>$100. I'll wait till Saturday when the all of the FOAM is Foaming. Everyone will have to watch their step and not slip in all the Foam!!!
